One of the World's Least Explored Countries
For a country with such a long history of gold production, Nicaragua is a very under-explored place.
Stable Democracy with High Exploration Potential
It's true that the exploration industry tends to steer clear of countries with troubled histories such as Nicaragua. But it's also true that explorationists have often led the way in terms of foreign investment once they see the political tide turning. This makes it all the more surprising that the neglect of Nicaragua's exploration potential has continued pretty much to the present day despite the transition to a stable democracy in the early 1990s.
Establishing Radius in One of the World's Least Explored Countries
Direct industry investment in exploration in Nicaragua has stumbled along at the US$1-million to US$3-million per year mark for the last few years, completely discounting the country's rich tradition of gold production. At Radius we see this enticing combination of high exploration potential with low investment in exploration as a particularly attractive opportunity to secure a leading role for ourselves in one of the world's least explored countries.
Our management have been exploring in Latin America since the mid 1990s. Our technical people have explored successfully in Venezuela, Mexico, Guatemala and Honduras, discovering millions of ounces of gold along the way. Glamis's San Martin mine in Honduras is one of our team's early discoveries which was sold to Glamis in 1997.
